You think Adobe is bad, try installing Nero 9. It leaves over 2 gigabytes of decompressed installer files in your TEMP directory for you to manually find and delete! My concern is that the sloppiness evidenced by not cleaning up work files migrates to the working code itself.
I tried installing it from inside InDesign and an error message told me to close the program, which I did. Then I received the same error message saying couldn't install, can't locate program. Adobe InDesign CS3 5.

Since no-one else has posted this as far as I can see, I'm going to. Dov Isaacs. Note that Release Notes for 5. My C drive is under great pressure - will it hurt if I delete this folder?
I'm deleting it on my test machine as I type, and I'll reboot and get back to you. My gut says it won't be a problem. A few minutes isn't a definitive test, but so far nothing bad has happened. ID opened and opened a large file with lots of links without any issues. You can delete the files without any problem! Thanks, Dov. I'd already tried moving them to an external drive for safe keeping with no obvious ill effects. This does prompt the question, though, of why particularly Adobe apps are so profligate with disk space.
Most apps clear up their temp files once installation is complete, and there are undoubtedly millions of users out there who don't have unlimited space on the appropriate drive.
Another example is Java, which will happily allow users to install one MB update after another without removing the earlier ones, until eventually the OS barks about lack of space. I realize that pros working with space-hungry apps like CS make sure they have enough, but that can't apply to everyone. It looks to me like sloppiness on the part of those writing the installation routines. I'll be interested to read your comments.
Thanks for sharing your opinion. I sincerely hope your fears are unfounded. InDesign Update 5. My problem with 5. Installation hangs with error msg: Please shutdown the following applications and click Retry or click Cancel to quit.
Internet Explorer Shutting down IE and retrying produces same result. Used task mgr to verify IE not running. Anyone else encounter this? I've submitted a support case and will post the result.
I had trouble installing the InDesign CS3 5. The stand-alone updater would run forever. Updating through Adobe Updater would error out with a 'can't locate program' error. In some of them there was a config. I edited it to point to the exact location of InDesign. Installation sucessful.
